Rawtenstall U10's v
Baxenden U10's Final at Clitheroe Cricket Festival
Baxenden won the toss and put us into bat and we finished on 57
for 3 wickets which was a comendable performance in only 9 overs.
Henry Wilby top scored but the all round batting performance was
great to say we had mostly under 9's in our team.
Our turn to bowl and once again we did a good job. Josh Emmott
and Luke Davies took 2 wickets each, Dean Metcalf took as good
a catch as you will see, Isaac Howarth was in top form behind
the wicket and Max Hussey saved at least 2 fours. We were dreadfully
unlucky to finish the game as the losing team and only lost by
4 runs.
The overall bowling prize for all of the competition was ours
and was well justified. A superb afternoon and well done to all.
Many thanks to Clitheroe for staging the event and we were happy
to take part and run out a deserved runners up. Thats it now,
I am having a rest until winter nets in January but I will be
in touch re sponsorship forms and also for the junior presentation
night. Once again thanks to all parents for your support, without
you this would not happen.
Rawtenstall U10's v Edenfield
U10's
Despite the weather we had a superb wicket to play on today at
Edenfield. I was asked some time ago by Steve Hunsley from Edenfield
if we could have some more games for our younger cricketers and
this was the first and hopefully not the last. We fielded a side
with 5 new players from the 8 which meant that all our U9's have
had a competetive game. Although this was an U10's fixture we
did not have 1 player in year 5 at school.
Sean fron Edenfield won the toss and elected to field. Some sensible
batting saw us get to 220 but we only lost 3 wickets. The brothers
Hadfield did not lose a wicket and Max Hussey and Henry Wilby
put on 18 without loss for the final pairing. Thomas Martin did
not lose a wicket and batted well.
Our bowling and fielding tonight was pure quality. Sam Keane on
his first game behind the wicket was superb. William Justice took
a wicket, James Hadfield took 2 wickets, Henry Wilby did his speciality
of a caught and bowled, Joe Emmett had just 1 run off his over.
The pick of the fielders tonight was Harry Hadfield who stopped
at least one boundary. The final score for Edenfield was 219 which
saw us through to a very close win. Man of the match tonight was
Max Hussey who had 2 maiden overs and one of these was a wicket
maiden (Its getting to be a very nice habit Max). Well done to
all of you and a massive thanks to Steve at Edenfield for arranging
this game and I will make sure we entertain your team next time.
Rawtenstall U9's v Haslingden
U9's
Well what a day! On arriving at the ground to set up the field
for our game it was noticed that the Pavilion had been broken
into and upon further investigation the culprates were seen to
be fast asleep in the upstairs sponsors lounge. After a call to
the Police the pair were easily apprehended and we could continue
our game.
I had a double booking this morning as my daughter had a last
minute town team fixture so I am grateful that David Pickup ran
things for me. We finished our innings on 12 and Haslingden got
30 in reply. The ground was really too wet to play this morning
but as this was the last game of the season and we have lost so
many games to the weather, it was decided that we should play.
David gave the man of the match to Luke Davies, who should go
on to town team trials this winter.
We will continue our Thursday night training for 2 more weeks
to complete the Bronze Level Certificates for the youngsters.
Can I take this opportunity to thank all parents and family for
their help and support, Tony Bolton, our groundsman, for preparing
our wickets, Dave Dawson for posting our news on the website,
Simon Butterworth for organising all junior cricket and lastly
but not leastly Paul Metcalfe for his help in training, without
Paul I would have had a real problem sorting so many young cricketers!
I will be in touch for the winter nets that start in January and
also for the presentation night.
Rawtenstall U10's Competition
at Clitheroe Cobras Cricket Club
After losing the original date to the weather we managed to get
the competition under way today. We were placed in Group 2 and
narrowly lost to Burnley in the 1st game before beating Lowerhouse
in the 2nd. This made us runners up in our group and we then faced
the hotly tipped favourites Ribblesdale in the semi-final. We
won the toss and decided to field. We restricted the opposition
to 32 with most of the score coming from extras as anything legside
was counted as a wide. A sound and sensible batting performance
saw us require 4 from the last over. A wide with 2 runs scored
off it put us 1 run in front and some admirable blocking for the
last 4 balls saw us through to the final.
All fired up for what should have been our day and then it rained!!!
The final will be on Sunday the 21st
September starting at 1.30pm. All
in all a great performance from our youngsters and can I, as always,
thank our parents for their support. A massive thanks to Peter
Howarth for warming our team up and to Ellis Hussey for umpiring
for me but todays stars were, Max Hussey, Isaac Howarth, Luke
Davies, Josh Emmott, Dean Metcalfe and Blake and Emma Pickup.
I have a cd with loads of photos of our kids in action coming
to me soon so if you want to borrow it please call me. No man
of the match today as I can not pick anyone form the 7 as they
were all superb. Finally thanks to Clitheroe Cobras for putting
on this great competition and good luck when your groundsman sees
the field tomorrow!
Rishton U9's v Rawtenstall U9's
Well the rain that poured down over the valley all day did not
occur in Rishton and it was something of a surprise that we managed
to get our game against Rishton in. Rishton won the toss and elected
to field. We finished on a level score of 200. Max Hussey top
scored with 8 and did not lose a wicket.
Our turn to field. Luke Davies took 3 wickets, Emily Holt, Isaac
Howarth, Henry Wilby and Max Hussey took 1 wicket each and William
Justice was again was super economical. Connor Peers-Holland,
as keeper again, only let 1 ball go for a bye tonight and we restricted
Rishton to 227. It was a fielding achievement, yet again, that
should be applauded. If we could bat like we do on a Thursday
night in training then these games would be easily won but this
comes with practice and a good winter net for this group of youngsters
will pay dividends. I look forward to doing some batting practice
in the nets with them come January. Thanks to all you parents
for your support again and also to John Curran at Rishton for
providing a great wicket for us to play on.
Longridge U9's v Rawtenstall
U9's
On what was forecast to be a showery day it turned out to be quite
a pleasant evening and the usual 2 extra coats that are normally
needed at Longridge were left in the car. Longridge won the toss
and decided to have a bat. After last weeks wicket-fest we only
managed 3 wickets. The pick of which was a superb catch by Henry
Wilby from Nathanial Horkin's over. Thomas Coupe and Henry also
took a wicket. Connor Peers-Holland did not let 1 ball go for
a bye and is getting better game by game as a keeper. Isaac Howarth
fielded up to his high standards and William Justice again was
very economical.
Emily Holt chased the ball so much tonight and she is getting
quicker by the week. We had Max Hussey tonight as Captain and
what a game he played. He bowled 3 overs and had 3 maidens and
how he did not get 3 or 4 wickets is beyond me. Longridge ended
on up on 38.
Our turn to bat and the story has a familiar ring to it and the
number of wickets lost did cost us the game. Max Hussey top scored
with 11 and considering his superb bowling effort (I have never
had a junior bowl 3 maiden overs ) he was far and away the man
of the match. Many thanks to our parents for your support tonight,
David Pickup for running the game for me and to Longridge for
your hospitality. Its great to go to a night game and be able
to get a decent brew
Rawtenstall U9's v East Lancs
U9's
The last time we played East Lancs we were on the end of a sound
thrashing. What a difference a few weeks makes, the kids have
really improved in several areas. We lost the toss and East Lancs
decided to bat. Last time we played they scored 87 and we took
5 wickets, this time they scored 43 and we took 11 wickets including
4 run outs. In the years I have been involved I can not remember
taking more wickets. In short, we were superb.
In reply we got to 20 having lost 6 wickets but a lot narrower
margin than last time. Man of the match was William Justice who
took 4 wickets and top scored on 6 but all our bowlers produced
and with a little more positive batting we could have won this
one. A long trip to Longridge is next a win must be just around
the corner. Well done everyone and a big thanks to David Pickup
for organising the field and umpiring for me.
Rawtenstall U9's v Ramsbottom
U9's
This was a fixture that was meant to be played at Ramsbottom but
the weather had put pressure on their ground so the fixture was
reversed. We had 2 new players playing today, welcome to Hamzah
Banaris and a welcome back to Thomas Rawstron. That takes our
total of kids that have represented us and enjoyed a game of cricket
to 17. We won the toss and elected to field and we did really
did well to keep a good Ramsbottom side to 56. Dylan Clegg took
a fine caught and bowled and we took 3 wickets in total.
In reply we finished on 31 but only lost 3 wickets and there was
some sensible batting by all our team. Luke Davies top scored
and was also in with the wickets so he was the man of the match.
Emily Holt is continuing to improve with her bowling, well done
Ems! Connor Peers-Holland took the gloves today and let vitually
nothing past him. Thomas Coupe is like a little Flintoff and again
bowled and batted really well and what can we say about William
Justice, he bowled superbly and today, batted as I know he can.
Well done all and well done to Ramsbottom for a good game of cricket.
Rawtenstall U9's v Rishton
U9's
Having won the toss we elected to bat, just for a change. We had
our 16 overs and scored 207 but lost 9 wickets which would make
our reply a bit of a mountain to climb. Top scorer was Connor
Peers-Holland followed by Willaim Justice.
Our turn to field. We were superb and kept Rishton to 233. Luke
Davies took 2 Wickets and Dylan 1 with Thomas Coupe taking the
last one. Nath Horkin played his first game and had a great start,
well done Nath you bowled well. Hamzah Binaris was accurate in
his bowling and after only a few sessions with us in training
he had 7 dot balls in his 2 overs. Emily Holt had 2 overs and
had a few wides in her 2 overs but hit a great straight drive
when batting. Man of the match tonight was Connor Peers-Holland
who kept wicket well and scored 6 without losing a wicket. Many
thanks to all the parents that endured the rain spell and supported
our youngsters and thanks to John from Rishton for umpiring and
coaching at both ends.
Rawtenstall U9's v Longridge
U9's
We won the toss and Luke elected to field. We were quite outstanding
and took 9 wickets and restricted Longridge to only 36. Luke Davies
was the pick of the bowlers and took 4 wickets for 15 in his 3
overs. Max Hussey chipped in with a wicket and 2 maiden overs.
The other wicket takers were Isaac and Connor.
We have chased down a score like this before and it really should
have been our game but unfortunately our batting never really
got going and having lost 9 nine wickets by the end we were never
in touch. Max Hussey took the man of the match, besides his good
bowling he also top scored with 9. Well done Max. We have now
played 4 games and 13 kids have enjoyed a game of cricket. I will
make this number closer to 20 by the end of the season. Once again
thanks to all who turned out to support our youngsters.
East Lancs U9's v Rawtenstall
U9's
Well what can you say! We met one of the finest U9 teams I have
seen for many a long day. The East Lancs manager David Pearson
said to me after the game that there are 6 members of his team
that have fathers that have played or still do play for the senior
teams and it did show! We won the toss and elected to field. Thomas
Coupe took 2 wickets and Luke Davies and William Justice took
1 each. East Lancs posted a score of 286 which was always going
to be a tough target to overhaul. The East Lancs bowling was accurate
and we saw the wickets tumble. We finally finished on 197. We
can finally get back to training after 2 weeks of senior fixtures
that have kept us off the ground and the first practice will definately
include some more work on the forward defence! There is no disgrace
in being beaten by such a good side who I suspect will turn out
to be the league winners. I have given the man of the match award
to the whole team this week as I was really pleased with the way
the lads stuck to the task and conducted themselves as young gentlemen.
Well done to you all and we will start again next Sunday against
Haslingden.
Rawtenstall C.C. under 9's
The rain that had threatened
all morning finally put paid to our match against Ramsbottom at
Bacup Road today. It was agreed that a draw would be a fair result.
Ramsbottom won the toss and put us in to bat. We were unfortunate
enough to face some good bowling from a well organised team and
as a result we saw the wickets tumble. We finished with 9 wickets
down and we were at 202. The task looked formidable but the team
fielded and bowled superbly and we took 5 wickets. When we called
the game off Ramsbottom were at 206 with 5 overs remaining but
a win was not out of the question for either side. It was a close
call for the man of the match award today but I have given it
to Isaac Howarth who scored 5 without loss and took a wicket maiden.
Finally thanks to all the brave souls who turned up to support
our youngsters. We really must be due a lovely warm day soon!
Our first game of the season
saw us away to Darwen. Firstly many thanks to the parents for
the help with transport and also braving the bitter wind. Our
captain Luke Davies won the toss and elected to field. In our
16 overs we kept Darwen to 36 for 3 with Luke Davies taking 3
wickets, 2 of which were caught and bowled. Oran Shell kept wicket
for the 1st time and not much got past him and with some great
fielding from Max Hussey and Thomas Coupe and a maiden over apeice
from Connor Peers-Holland and Isaac Howarth we had a good target
to bat at.
We scored 50 for 3 in our 16 overs which gave us a win and a great
start to the season. Dylan Clegg top scored with 13 and Henry
Wilby got 2 very good 4's.
A good first game for the lads and well done to them all, great
spirit and a great attitude. I have to pick a man of the match
and it was a tough choice tonight but I must choose Luke Davies
with 3 overs 8 for 3 and scored 6 with the bat. Well done Luke.
Rawtenstall CC's under 9s
The U9's pre-season competition
took place at Fearns on Friday the 18th of April. Thanks to a
great response from the Year 3 and 4's at our catchment schools
we were able to field 2 teams and in what can only be described
as arctic conditions we managed to played 2 games each before
the day was called to a halt. As such, there was no result but
from what I have seen and also from what Matt Hussey said, who
kindly helped me out with running the 2 teams, there is great
promise for our youngsters.
Many thanks to Nick Westwell from Rossendale Alive for organising
the event and to Matt and his son Ellis for helping me.
