Monday 21st July Colne under
17's v Rawtenstall under 17's at Colne
Rawtenstall 125 for 2 off 20 overs v Colne 125 for 5 off 20 overs
Rawtenstall put up a brave fight in a bid to topple Colne. only
a victory would leave Rawtenstall in with a chance of league honours.
Batting first Rawtenstall made a slow start, and lost Matthew
Kershaw 6 in the fourth over when the score was on 17. Conner
Glover and Scott Wylie added 37 for the second wicket when Glover
was bowled for 13 with the score on 54. Tom Brown joined Wylie
and took the score to 101 when Wylie retired on 50 not out. Luke
Wilcox joined Brown and the pair took Rawtenstall's score to 125
at the end of the 20 overs.
The Colne openers piled on the runs and were on 70 in the eleventh
over before the first break through, but after their other opening
batsman retired on 50 not out out Colne lost their way and Rawtenstall
clawed their way back into the match.7 runs were required off
the final over bowled by Tom Brown, they scored a single off the
first ball, and then Brown flattened the middle stump with his
second two leg byes and a single off the the next three balls
ment Colne required 3 runs off the last ball for victory, they
ran two off the last ball and lost a wicket going for a suicidle
third which meant the match ended in a tie, and with it any lingering
hope off Rawtenstall winning the league.a super all round team
performance from all the players nearly brought them what would
have been a deserved victory.

Monday 14th July 2008 Burnley under 17's V Rawtenstall under
17's
Burnley 117 for 4 off 18 overs V Rawtenstall 115 for 5 off 18
overs
Any chance of the title slipped away after this narrow defeat
at Turf Moor.
Batting first Burnley scored heavily in the early overs, putting
on 47 for the first wicket in the fifth over.
after the loss of 2 wickets the scoring slowed down, and Burnley's
innings closed on 117 for the loss of 4 wickets. with only Scott
Wylie amongst the wickets plus 2 run outs.
Rawtenstall started slowly and the loss of Matthew Kershaw 7 and
Conner Glover 0 in the third over didn't help the cause.
Tom Brown joined Scott Wylie and the pair added 44 for the third
wicket, when Tom Brown was caught on the boundary for 19 with
the score on 64.Luke Wilcox joined Wylie and they added another
30 before Scott Wylie was bowled for 46 (2x4 & 2x6) with the
score on 94.
Dean Barlow joined Wilcox and they edged towards their target.
2 balls were left and four runs needed when Wilcox was adjudged
LBW when halway down the wicket. David Pickup joined Barlow but
only a single was added off the last ball as Rawtenstall fell
just 3 runs short of victory. a win at leaders Colne next week
won't be enough, it will depend on Colne slipping up twice in
the final 2 games.

Rawtenstall 227 for 1 off 20 overs v Rishton 100 for 5 off 20
overs
Rawtenstall's night got off to a bad start with only nine players
available for the game, but things got progressively better after
that.Batting first against a very young and inexperienced Rishton
side, Rawtenstall recovered from loosing opener Scott Wylie for
2 with the score on 19 in the 3rd over, to post a massive score
of 227 for 1 wicket. Matthew Kershaw retired on 53 Not out with
8 fours and 2 sixes when the score was on 100 in the tenth over.

six when the score was on 137, Tom Brown retired on 53 not out

the 2 not out batsmen were Luke Wilcox on 20 with 1 four and 1
six, and David Pickup also 20 not out with 2 fours.
the young Rishton Batsmen were never going to get any where near
the total and made a disaterous start loosing 2 wickets in the
first three overs with only 5 on the board, the next two batsmen
then put on 67 for the third wicked before both fell in consecutive
overs with the score on 72 and 74. tight bowling in the final

completed a 127 run victory. the wickets were shared out with
Luke Wilcox claiming 2, and a wicket a piece for Scott Wylie,
Dean O'Brien and Matt Turner.

a wicket.Tom Brown bowled the penultimate over and conceded only
three runs. Matt Turner bowled the final over of the innings that

Rawtenstall Under 17's V Colne
Under 17's Monday 16th June 2008 At Rawtenstall
Rawtenstall 132 for 7 off 20
overs V Colne 133 for 6 off 17.1 overs
The under 17's lost their second
succesive match, this time against title favourites Colne.
Batting first Rawtenstall for the second week running found runs
hard to come by, only 57 runs were on the board by the end of
the 14th over. during these fourteen overs wickets fell.Matthew
Kershaw for 4, Conner Glover for 15, Tom Brown and Luke Wilcox
both going for a duck, from the fourteen over onwards the Rawtenstall
batsmen upped the scoring rate. Scott Wylie retired on 51 not
out including 5 fours and 3 sixes. George Bevan went for 6, Dean
Barlow for a quick 21 in ten balls with two fours and two sixes,
Wadjid Ali fell next ball for a duck, and David Pickup 11 and
Dean O'Brien 0 were the not out Batsmen, some wayward bowling
from Colne at the end gifted 19 extra's as Rawtenstall closed
their innings on 132 for 7 wickets.
The big hitting Colne batsmen showed why they are probably title
favourites, but the Rawtenstall bowlers kept chipping away and
wickets did fall, and at 82 for 5 the match was evenly balanced.
But a 6th wicket partnership of 47 swung the match away from Rawtenstall,
and Colne passed their target with 2 overs and 5 balls to spare.
The wicket takers were Dean O'Brien 2 for 28, Tom Brown 1 for
12, Scott Wylie 1 for 16, Dean Barlow 1 for 29, and Wajid Ali
1 for 31. A much better team performance than the previous week,
just beaten by the better team on the day.

Rawtenstall under 17's v Burnley under 17's played at Rawtenstall
Burnley 153 for 7 off 20 overs v Rawtenstall 139 for 6 off 20
overs
A well below par fielding performance
and some wayward bowling cost the under 17's their unbeaten record.
Batting first Burnley totalled 153 for 7 off their 20 overs, but
this score could and should have been over 30 runs less.Sloppy
fielding turned singles into boundaries, and short pitched bowling
gifted the Burnley batsmen easy runs. The wickets were shared
out between the bowlers, with Dean O'Brien taking 2 for 26, Scott
Wylie 2 for 31, Joel Eagan 1 for 12, Tom Brown 1 for 22, and Dean
Barlow 1 for 32, the only wicket less bowler was David Pickup
who's four overs went for 25.
When Rawtenstall started their reply they were dealt an early
double blow when the reliable opening partnership of Matthew Kershaw
1 and Scott Wylie 19 were both back in the pavillion with the
score on 26. Tom Brown was next to go for 12. Connor Glover was
the only batsman to master the bowling and he retired on 50 not
out including 7 fours and 2 sixes. Dean Barlow 5, David Pickup
6 and Luke Wilcox 14 were the other batsmen to loose their wickets.
the not out batsmen for the second match in a row were Wajid Ali
18 and Dean O'Brien 1.
Although the lower order batsmen gave it their best shot the team
finished 14 runs short of the Burnley total, but this match was
lost in the first innings.

Todmorden v Rawtenstall played
at Todmorden
Rawtenstall 115 for 6 off 20 overs v Todmorden 105 for 9 off 20
overs
Rawtenstall under 17's maintained
their winning start to the season with a narrow 10 run victory
at Todmorden
Captain for the night Scott Wylie won the toss and decided to
bat, but the team found runs hard to come by.Conner Glover was
first to go caught behind for 1, the first of four victims for
the Todmorden keeper.Scott Wylie went in a similar way for 21.Dean
Barlow made 11, and then the crucial wicket of Tom Brown out for
a very good 32. David Pickup made 5 and the last wicket to fall
was that of George Bevan with a useful knock of 13. 12 runs were
scored off the final over with the not out batsmen Wajid Ali on
15 and Dean O'Brien on 6.
The two Todmorden openers seemed in control putting on 44 after
8 overs, but a double bowling change swung the match in Rawtenstall's
favour.Callum Nuttall came on and took 2 wickets in his first
over conceding only 1 run, with Scott Wylie coming on at the other
end and taking a wicket in his first over. the wickets continued
to tumble and by the end of the seventeenth over Todmorden were
on 75 for 8 and the match seemed over. But a late rally from Todmorden
brought them past the hundred mark when their ninth wicket fell
in the penultimate over. wanting 14 off the last over for victory
Todmorden managed only three and fell 10 runs short.
another good all round team performance, especially in the field,
but a man of the match performance from bowler Callum Nuttall
who finished with remarkable figures of 4 overs 0 maidens 5 wickets
for 9 runs.
All the bowlers performed well with only one extra counting against
the bowlers.

Rawtenstall 199 for 3 off 20
overs Rishton 77 all out off 19 overs
the under 17's made it back to

including 10 fours and 1 six.
Conner Glover joined in with 45 not out including 9 fours, other
scores were Tom Brown 15, David Pickup 5 Luke Wilcox 2 and George

it was obvious that the young Rishton side would struggle with
such a daunting target and so it prooved as they were bowled out
for 77. sensible captancy from Matthew Kershaw who rotated his
bowlers to give them all a bowl, the wickets fell at regular intervals
with seven of the eight bowlers taking wickets. Dean Barlow picked
