Rawtenstall C.C. under 15 's
Enfield 105-6 Rawtenstall 106-1
A great start to the league season by the under 15's saw us comfortably
beat Enfield with nearly 6 overs to spare. Having chosen to bat
first, Enfield made a solid start by punishing anything loose,
but the breakthrough was made when captain Dean O'Brien removed
the more aggressive of the opening batters, caught behind by George
Bevan, the first of 4 catches during the innings. From then on
tight bowling by Alex Griffiths, Sam Excell and a first bowl of
the season by Joel Egan that produced 3 wickets, saw Enfield finish
on 105-6.
Although we lost George Bevan early on, caught from a leading
edge, Alex Griffiths and Dean O'Brien never looked in any danger
and punished Enfield's attack to all parts. Alex finally retired
after reaching a great 50 (rules state you have to). Sam Excell
joined Dean, and they carried on the attack, reaching our target
in the 14th over with Dean on 28 not out, and Sam on 15 not out.
Rawtenstall 56 all out Burnley 57-2
After the high's of the first game, the lads came down to earth
with a bump. winning the toss and batting, the innings never got
going. Although the Burnley bowlers bowled straight, they didn't
look threatening, but suicidal run outs and bad batting all through
the order, meant we could only muster a paltry 56 at the end of
our innings.
What was to follow in reply could only be described as blatant
cheating! Dean O'Brien opened up in the first over and had their
opening batsman caught behind with an edge that everyone on the
ground could hear, umpires decision, NOT OUT! His 2nd over, exactly
the same, decision again, NOT OUT! What people must gain from
this in junior sport is beyond me and it totally ruins any game
that it happens in! (even their scorer apologised for the umpire
after the game, does that not say something?). Burnley went on
to win the game easily, Dean and Danny Whittle picking up a wicket
apiece. A game best forgotten about in more ways than one!
