This might sound like a comfortable defeat, but in all honesty the best cricket was played by Rawtenstall in there first game of the season. Batting first, Colne got off to a good start hitting numerous boundaries, especially to the short boundary. But it wasnt until the last pair of Colne batsmen came to the crease that any 'proper' cricket shots were played. In the field the Rawtenstall lads performed with great credit, no misfields, always backing up, encouraging each other all in all great work. with the ball everybody bowled well wicket takers being Cameron Holder and Bradley Ainsworth there was also a great run out by Joshua Emmott. Only 2 wides and not one no-ball tells its own story.
When Rawtenstall went
out to bat it was good to see the lads playing 'with a straight
bat'. In fact the only crossbat shot to remember was by Ellis
Hussey who skied one to mid wicket, but no criticism can be pointed
at 'Elbow' because he batted superbly, scoring 26, one straight
drive in particular any batsmen would be proud of. A special mention
to Charlie Scott who was 'pressganged' into wicketkeeping and
did a splendid job and let nobody down.
It might sound harsh on Colne they won fair and square they are
young and can only get better, but if the RCC lads carry on with
the basics of bowling line and length, playing straight with the
bat i can see more of this squad going on to better things than
their counterparts
