Rishton v Rawtenstall : Sunday 17th Aug

After Saturdays demolition of Todmorden,we had what could be a potential banana
skin fixture against the current league champions Rishton.Yet again the weather was not
as inviting or settled as it should have been for a summers day.On a wet wicket the home
side won the toss and decided to bat.John Seedle and Jimmy Bibby opened for the home
side. The Prince and Paynie opened for us,the pair bowling a tight opening spell, which culminated
in Seedle trying to break the shackles only to be caught by Bomber Riley off a skier for a painstaking
8,Paynie being the successful bowler.(25 for 1)Professional Anwar joined Bibby and these two added
a further26,until Bibby was bowled for 18.With the score on 61 Anwar nicked an arm ball, which Big
Vin managed to get a glove on and Paynie took a superb one handed diving catch at slip,to dismiss
the Rishton paid man for 19.Winkley fared no better nicking one behind and was smartly taken by the Big
fella for 11(66 for 4).This became 80 for 5 as Scot Greaves skied one off Nathan who ran thirty yards to
take yet another remarkable catch off his own bowling.Simon Hacking and Mike Leathert added a robust 30
for the sixth wicket until the latter was snaffled at short cover by Bomber off Nathan for 10.Barry Hamilton
then provided support for the aggressive Hacking, but when the former tried to emulate his partner he was
well caught at cow shot corner by Chris off Nathan for 11(148 for 7).Hutchinson was easily run out attempting
a suicidal second ,and Hacking followed a ball later holing out at deep square leg for an entertaining 41.The
Rishton innings was all over 3balls later as Nuttall was run out by half the length of the pitch following a direct
hit from Jay-Lo at mid off,150 all out.
Our reply got off to the worst possible start with Chris giving a simple catch to the bowler Anwar without scoring.
Danny B then ran himself out for one and we found ourselves 5 for 2.Nathan then looked to dominate the bowling
but was caught at silly point off the Pro for 22(31 for 3).Paynie then took the game by the scruff of the neck, routing
the bowling, whilst bringing up his 50 with a six, another maximum followed, but in the same over he was caught at long on
for 57.He and the Prince had put on a valuable 78 for the fourth wicket. The Bomber then came in and although starting
shakily once he got going he pogoed first the Pro and then Hamilton all round the park eclipsing the Prince with his
stroke-play.We won the game without further loss,Sealy finishing on 26n.o. and the Bomber 38n.o.Passing the target
with more than 12 overs to spare. All that remained was to give Nathan a good send off,as he embarks on a NZ A-tour
of India,I'm sure everyone associated with the club would wish him well,on this venture(but not too well as NZ loss
will be our gain next season.Only joking!).
Now only six left and nine points bad, whatever next?'til next week see you laytur Kes.
