Rawtenstall v Ramsbottom

Sunday saw us entertain local rivals Ramsbottom,at Bacup Road.
Saturdays weather was once again atrocious it rained all day.
Greeted by sunshine as I awoke Sunday morning all was looking
good for play that afternoon. At just after eleven the heavens opened
the deluge that followed was of biblical proportions. On arrival at the ground
things intially didn't look too bad, looks can be decieving.A herculean effort by
the groundsman Tony Bolton, made a start possible by 2pm.
On a drying surface Paynie won the toss and decided to bat.Chris and Paynie
got us off to a flier yet again. They put on 50 for the first wicket,Chris was comprehensively
bowled by Shane Harwood the Rammy paid man for a blistering 33.Next ball Harwood trapped
Danny B lbw,and Nathan survived the hat trick ball.Paynie was caught at point chasing a wide one
off Jack Walmsley for 15(66 for 3).Enter the Prince,he and Nathan added an assured 56 before
Mick Haslam(who had replaced Harwood at the Kay Street end)bowled the home professional for 44
breaking the middle stump in the process. The Prince then plundered McLean, effortlessly depositing him
onto the terracing and whipping his next delivery through wide mid wicket for 4.McLean gained his
revenge in the same over having him caught behind for 20.Bomber Riley and Young Kersh added 15 for the
sixth wicket, but both departed within an over of each other. At 140 for 7 it was upto Big Vin and Scott Wiley
to push the score on. Vin did this supported by Scott, adding a further 23 for the eighth wicket.Scotty was
bowled by McLean and in the final over Harwood made light work of Afi and me,bowling the pair of us for zilch,
leaving Big Vin 18 not out,and the team 164 all out.Harwood finishing with a very creditable 5 for 37.
Although we would have liked a few more on the total,it seemed a competative sort of score. The Prince and
Paynie opened the attack, and it wasn't long until the Prince dismissed Phil Hayes caught and bowled for 7(15 for 1).
He was soon in the wickets again dismissing the other opener Rothwell bowled for 10.Harwood was given a life
as Bomber Riley dropped him off Paynie when on 3.Not to be deterred Paynie trapped Dave Bell lbw for 6.The same
fate awaited the Rammy skipper Read back to the hut for 2.At 63 for4,Keith Webb joined the fray a threatening
partnership was developing, until a rain break intervened.Almost immeadiatly after the break Webb was smartly caught
on the long off boundary by the Prince for 7.With the score on 86 for 5,it looked as if the life given to Harwood
would ultimately cost us the game, not to be,as he was well taken by Big Vin for 46.Rammys tail found the task too
much and when McLean was lbw to Nathan without scoring, and Ross Brown well stumped by Vin victory was ours.
The rain then came again to put the result beyond doubt Rammy finishing 28 short of their revised target.
So 10 points for us and 4 for Rammy who had 1 point deducted for slow over rate.Double header next week
we really have to win both.
