Nelson v Rawtenstall

Saturday saw us away to Nelson, this being a replay date. Not only was
it to be league leaders versus joint second(us),but by a quirk in the fixtures
saw us entertain Nelson the day after.
We won the toss and decided to bat.We were quickly in a bit of difficult
situation 19 for 3 having lost Paynie for 0, Nathan for 1and Danny B lbw
for 6.Enter "the Prince", he and Chris not only steadied the ship, but
propelled it forward. The pair put on 64 for the third wicket,Chris departing for
38 lbw to McMillan.Jay-lo Hayman then blasted a quick-fire 24 to add impetus
(yes Afi that's the word you were looking for not impotence)to the innings.Sealy
departed for a classy 42,with the score on 127.Will followed almost immediately,
also trapped lbw for 3.No need to worry though Bomber Riley and Super Afi put
bat to ball in the final overs adding an invaluable 41 for the eighth wicket.Poor
Barney was run out trying to take a cheeky single to the wicket keeper on the
ultimate ball of our innings. So we closed on 168 for 9,a very competitive total indeed.
We knew they were going to come at us hard and they did scoring 29 off the first 6 overs,
22 coming off my 3 overs alone.Nathan was brought on at the Pavilion end and first ball dismissed
Sean Lemon for 22.Better was to come Paynie's first ball from the other end trapped the Nelson
pro McMillan lbw for 1. 30 for 2 and the fight went out of Nelson,Dave Crotty could hardly
believe his dismissal,a truly awesome catch from his own bowling from Nathan(I've played
30 seasons and can't remember a better one!)38 for 3 and the procession had started.Neil
Thompson was easily caught at mid on by Chris off Nathan for7.Danny Kegg was bowled very next ball
for 20. 54 for 5 became 59 for 6 as Hussain was run out by a smart piece of cricket by the rampant McCullum.
Tom Lord was then trapped lbw for 5,68 for 7.Kurrum Nazir tried hitting his way out of trouble but was
snaffled at short-leg by Bomber when one turned and bounced on him.The final two wickets added a further
15 runs the Nelson skipper Bradley was ignominiously run out by that man McCullum for 5.Nelson ending
85 all out,Nathan finishing with 6 for 28.
With that win it took us to joint top in the league with Accrington.
