Keith's Memories of R.C.C.
Rawtenstall C.C.
v Lowerhouse C.C. Saturday 3rd May 08
Crunch-time had
arrived BEAT Lowerhouse and the club record of
consecutive wins would be ours.Paynie won the toss and from there
on
in most everthing went our way.Not with luck but with our overwhelming
belief, totally outplayed the opposition in every department.
Paynie and Chris eased the opening partnership past fifty, before
Chris
who had foretold his downfall earlier, perished shouldering arms
for 18.Paynie and Nathan
eased us effortlessly to 122 at half way before Nathan was removed
straight
after drinks for 30.Paynie then grabbed his second 50 in three
innings.Danny B
who had joined the party, started scratchily, but then played
some delightful strokes.Even
when Paynie was caught behind for 71 with the score on 155,we
could have fallen away,
but Sealy kept the pressure on nonchalantly clipping the pro over
square leg for 6.
With Danny and Sealy scoring 33 and 26 respectively, the lads in
the lower order
made hay and we finished on 222 for 6.
All the pressure was now on Lowerhouse, a tight opening spell
from both Paynie and myself
the opposition openers tried to brake the shackles and failed.Driver
went for 5,Finch for 21,
Drew the pro for 2 and Chris Bleazard also for 2.At half way the
contest was effectively over.
67 for 4.Abbas and Charley Cottam showed resistance but it was
slow.Nathans two wickets
in two balls blew the middle order away,Abbas for 23 and Chris
Benbow first ball.Paynie
ended Cottams stubborn resistance clean bowling him for 33.Then
trapped Jack McGregor
for 4, 120 for 8. Another 29 runs were added at a painfully slow
rate ,as Joe Hawke was
caught behind for 22,the fat lady rose and began clearing her
throat.Jonny Russell was bowled
for a single and the record was ours.
So well done to Andy Payne for leading us on this fantastic journey, the
lads for there never say
die attitude especially against Bacup at home last season, and
Enfield away this.To Nathan
McCullum who has slipped effortlessly into his role, and lets not
forget Sanjay Bangar, who started the
whole thing off back at Rammy with his match winning performance
of 60 and 6fer.
What a magnificent achievement, and I( like the rest of the lads
)am proud to be a part of it,and long
may it continue(the run that is).
Nothing to report on Sunday it pissed it down all day(for those
not of a Lancastrian disposition it rained
a lot).
'till next time see you laytur Kes.
