Haslingden v Rawtenstall

After the crushing defeat the previous day it was imperative that we got
back to winning ways against Hassy. We won the toss and decided to
bat.The only cloud on the horizon was the health of Nathan, who like
yours truly had contracted a rather nasty if not ultimately fatal virus.
Paynie and Chris opened ,the pair put the home attack to the sword,
Chris being particularly severe on the home professional, blasting him out of the attack
By the time Nathan had surfaced we were 97 without loss,Chris having made an
excellent half century.Paynie joined him,and at half way we were 110 for none.
A change of ends for Dasher Dearden saw the fall of the first wicket as Paynie
holed out at mid off for a well compiled 55.Jonny Hayman looked in good
nick but not for the first time came up short in the running department and was
run out for 7.Enter the pro who played well within himself, giving the the impression
there was far more to come, once he felt better. He and Chris breezed along picking
off the bowlers at will until Chris got a shooter and was gone for an excellent 94.
Matt Hanson became Bandys' second lbw victim without scoring.Nathan was next out for 34
adjudged bowled, although he picked the bails up from in front of the stumps replaced them
and then the brouhaha began, the Umpires conferred and gave him out.A few unpleasantaries
ensued and our innings crawled to 227 for8 with Matt Kershaw finishing 11not out.
We believed that the score was enough to secure a win especially if we bowled and fielded
well.Success came almost instantly with Ollie Rigby running himself out for 1.Graham Knowles
quickly followed, despite being dropped by me off my own bowling,to balls later he swept
hard the ball ricocheted off Chris at silly mid on and was caught by Matt Hanson at silly mid off.
That was the last piece of good fortune we had.Dearden and Bandy survived some good bowling
from Paynie and when Dearden was on 16 he was dropped off the bowling of Nathan with
the total on 40.Another chance was offered in the next over this was not taken either although
a valiant attempt to catch it was made.Bandy and Dasher both collected fifties and we were
up against it.Dearden survived a difficult stumping chance, but Bandys' vigil was ended when
Nathan had him both caught and stumped by Big Vin for54.Next ball Pemberton was dropped
and he went on to smash his way to fifty, during this the tiring Dearden completed his swashbuckling
hundred.Hassy getting home with 8.2 overs to spare.
Two defeats in the weekend and only two points, this sees us 15 behind Accy but cricket is a funny
game and who's to say the roles won't be reversed after this weeks double header.
'til next week see you laytur Kes
