East Lancs v Rawtenstall
Saturday saw us make the return trip to H.Q. buoyed
by the news
that the sub pro they had engaged the week previously had gone
back home to India, but on the downside they had engaged the equally
potent Nishit Shetty(frying pan ,fire sprang to mind).East Lancs
batted
first.Nathan opened up bowling his medium pace,it wasn't long
before
he had the make shift opener Kelly easily caught at point for
7.This brought
Shetty to the wicket, after three rasping drives Nathan decided
to change
the attack to spin.Shetty flashed at the first ball and was well
caught by
Paynie at slip for 14.Nathan then removed Clague for 11and the
home side
were in a spot of trouble at 43 for 3.Phil Mercer only managed
5 before
playing on,off Nathan, 53 for 4.Sid Patel and Wicketkeeper Caunce
added
20 before the former was smartly stumped by Big Vin for 14.(With
that victim
Vin passed Peter Barnes for the total number of victims at Rawtenstall
and
moved into second spot behind Brian Manning.)Phil Mooney and Caunce
added a further 27 before the latter tried some fancy footwork
and skied a catch to
Danny B at deep square leg.Mooney hit 16 off the penultimate over, and
the East
Lancs innings finished on128 for 6 off 33overs.
Shortly after our innings started we got a heavy sharp shower, that
halted play for some
12 minutes so on resumption our target had been reduced to 117
from 29 overs.Chris
managed 8 before chopping on.Paynie and Danny B added 16 before
the skipper
skied a catch off Shetty and was out for 15,38 for 2.this became
46 for 3 when Nath
took a suicidal two and was run out for 5.Danny and the Prince(Sealy)added
a further 27
but at a pedestrian pace and when the Prince tried to up the ante
he was found wanting.
Gone for a laboured 10.Jay-Lo faired no better running himself
out for 2.Will came and went in the
blink of an eye,and we were really in the cart 76 for 6 with overs
running out.Danny
tried to win the game but was caught for 47 in the penultimate
over.Vin was bowled for1 trying
to clear the boundary, the next ball the Bomber was run out .With
two balls remaining we needed 12 to
win but a well directed yorker put pay to that, and a scrambled
single off the last ball saw us gain the
final bonus point. Not 5 points gained but 5 points lost,we threw
that one away, falling 10 runs short.
Full marks to Patel and Shetty for sticking at it.With Accy winning
against Tod they opened up a
20 point lead on us.'til next time see you laytur Kes.
