Rawtenstall v Enfield
Saturday we played hosts to Enfield on a sunny if blustery
afternoon.
We won the toss and decided to bat.As has become common,Paynie
and
Chris got us off to a steady start Paynie reaching 16 before being
adjudged
lbw off Brent with the score on 30.Danny B got to 9 when he became
the
second lbw victim of Brent.Nathan broke the sequence ,nicking
one to the
keeper off the same bowler and departed for 6.At 49 for 3 we were
in a spot of bother.
Chris and extras came to the rescue, adding 28 of the 33 run partnership
for the forth wicket
as the Prince became lbw number 3 for Brent. This became four as
the Bomber saw the digit of doom loom
large, and at 99 for 5 in some real bother.Matt Kershaw played
an innings of great restraint and
patience,as Chris took the attack to the opposition. These two
adding 88 for the sixth wicket with Chris
scoring a magnificent 92,bowled by Brent (as much through the
fatigue of the batsman, rather than the
skill of the bowler).Jay-Lo becoming Brents'seventh victim when
caught by a diving first slip for2.
Big Vin and Kersh then set about the bowling ,with the pair hitting
a flurry of boundaries adding
a quick fire 43 for the eighth wicket Kersh stumped for a fine
33.Afi was out for a golden duck.
The innings concluded on 241 for 9 with Vin not out 25.Gary Brent
toiled all afternoon returning
figures of 7 for 105 off 25 overs including four lbws!
Things in the field did not go to plan.A malaise seemed to descend
on us the likes of which I haven't
seen for over a season. As the oppositoin got off to a flier there
seemed to be a collective apathy about
our play,as though we didn't really have to work hard because
we were going to win come what may.
Unfortunatly nobody told the opposition, and by the drinks interval(25
overs) they were 130 without loss.
After a forthright lecture from the skipper, things improved out
of all recognition.Opener Ferguson was
snaffled by Big Vin for 58(139 for 1).This became 143 for 2 as
Mas Ahmed was trapped lbw by Nathan
for 58 too.Maudsley was bowled by Nathan next ball for zilch, and
things were finally starting to go our way.
Adam Bracewell hit a rapid 21 but Paynie bowled him(164 for 4).When
Andy Barker was stumped off Paynie
for 6.Enfield were in a spot of bother needing 59 from 8 overs.Alas
that man Brent,he smashed a quick 50 off
only 33 balls to see his side home with ten balls to spare ably
supported by Mark Burns who finished 19 not out.
Well a disappointing defeat but only ourselves to blame.Only nine
more games to go weather permitting ,til next time
see you laytur Kes.
