After the weather put pay to the eagerly awaited top of the table clash last Sunday.
Saturday we entertained the Old Men of E.Lancs, and their sub pro
emerging Indian Chitnis(a 20y.o. slip of a lad). The visitors won the toss
and decided to bat.A decision they could have been regretting when
reduced to 13 for 2.Opener Chambers elevated to pinch hit or in his case
miss! With Dave Pearson smartly caught by Big Vin,all seemed rosy in the
garden. That was until Chris remarked to the Young Indian after he hit his
first six"Good shot mate, but Sanjay Bangar hit it further". Sanjay may have hit
his sixes further ,but definitely not as often. This was a demonstration of hitting
I for one haven't seen the likes of in thirty years of first team cricket, bloody
awesome. Not one bowler was spared. We eventually got Andy Clague out
with the score on 152 run out by Nathan as he could not handle a ferocious
drive from his opposite number.Paynie did for him as the only one he missed
after charging the bowler, left him stumped, and even that one popped a bit.
194 for 4,with still 22 overs remaining. The rest sort of came and went,
Turner,Caunce and Mooney departed cheaply.Kelly and Bolton getting 20s,
and a late flurry from Dave Turner saw the visitors finish on 269 all out.
A quick mention to the two sub fielders ,Scott Wylie who deputised for Kingy
who went to hospital after head butting the terracing, and Dean O'Brien who
dirtied my spare whites without telling me,while subbing for Nathan.
This was going to be a big ask on a drying wicket, and it proved to be so.
With only Chris(17),Will(12)and Bomber Riley(27)making double figures
we capitulated for less than 100,and were well beaten.
Only one thing left to say,a rumour was going around after the game, that
Mr.Chitnis asked if he always plays so aggressively,he replied by saying
in Twenty20 games yes.He was under the impression this was a twenty20
match, unbelievable.Rumour also has it he has been engaged again on Saturday
for the home fixture against us.I'm definitely looking forward to that NOT.
'Til next time see you laytur Kes.
