Colne v Rawtenstall
Keith's Memories of R.C.C.
Colne C.C. v Rawtenstall
C.C. Sunday 20th April 08
Welcome to Season
08. On a dank,dark,drizzly,cold,late April 20th,our
season got underway, after more than a two hour delay. We won the
toss
and decided to field. Success was not long in coming ,when new
pro
Nathan McCullum had Liam Sumpter, bowled. He was quickly followed
by the Colne paid man Snijman, who managed to punch one onto his
own
stumps. As a contest it was more or less over. The casuals played
the way
they usually do with gusto and gay abandon.Mas Wilson soon followed.
It was left to Colin Varley to carry the baton. He did, but meantime
Nathan
was making inroads into the unfamiliar Colne lineup.Varley got
to a well
made 50 and then perished with overs running out,as well as partners.
We just failed to pick up the bowling points.Nathan finishing
with a well
deserved 6 for 82 off 16,ably supported by yours truly 3for 42
off 16.
A deserved mention to all the lads who fielded brilliantly in
conditions
better suited for igloo building ,rather than cricket. The Casuals
finishing
on 134 for 9.
Paynie and Chris C-M then went out and totally destroyed the Colne
attack, putting on 79 for the first wicket in no time,Chris making
43.
Paynie soon cruised passed 50 which included ten fours(not a lot
of running there).
The game finished with a flourish of boundaries from the skipper,
who finished
73 not out, with the pro having made a useful 20 not out. So another
win
was achieved with clinical efficiency, it could be a long season
for the Casuals
who have lost four good players, and are in a bit of a transitional
state.
Onward and upwards for the Rocky boys away to Enfield on Sat,and
Church at home on Sun.Lets hope for warmer weather..........pleeeease!
'til next week see you laytur Kes
