If
CARLSBERG did pessimists they'd sit them on a bench next to a
sightscreen and give one of them a camera PROBABLY. Yes things
were going well against Haslingden ,then Payney retired hurt ,the
pro and C.C.M got out ,and it was all doom and gloom again, but
up stepped Saddle -Sore-Cook Martin and big Vinny to steer us
to a defendable score on another good cricket wicket on the hallowed
turf. The visitors started well with young Rigby playing a mature
knock, but at 150 FOR 4 (we were a poor team again according to
the Carlsberg brigade) a combination of suicide from Haslingden
and the fighting spirit of our lads in the field saw us record
another great win.
Most of the bank holiday weekend was a blur so some of the report
may contain some inaccuracies, so situation normal I hear you
say ,Saturday saw the thirds record their first win of the season
against another team of acne fighters .In a fantastic game of
over five hundred and fifty runs we won with the last pair at
the wicket . Chris Hannam 56 and young Tom Brown 96 were the main
batting heroes but kolpack player Spurret showed great nerve at
the end also. It must have been a great moral boost for Ian Excell
and the lads. When I asked Ian about Tom Browns innings he said
,
"Haven't seen anything like it since my schooldays"
I have been late going to print this week because I got told that
Sealy and Kes were due to be on Britain's got talent, but sadly
I have to announce there have been no disappearing acts on the
show.
Apparently previous reports have been causing a bit of a to-do,
Bob Barnes has been in a quandary he doesn't know whether to wear
a flat cap or a baseball cap, the smuggled pies were Cordeys not
Cissy Greens,.
One more question I was asked came in the form of a complaint
about the first team photo ,it went something like,
"Bob do you know why they waited for Hanson and Seal to come
back from holiday to be on the photo?"
"No idea ,probably so they can fill the back row"
Finally to all the bar staff and the committee who worked tirelessly
last weekend on a super Sunday well done I'd raise a glass to
you but we can't find any.
The final word must go to my wife Paula .
"How the hell have you got in that state ,I thought you couldn't
get served"
