Two
years ago when I first started the Nearly news (views from the
wall)people used to cringe when they got a mention, not now people
are starting to drop little innuendoes or perhaps propaganda when
I'm in earshot. Even more surprisingly I'm getting complaints
about not getting mentioned. Now please try to imagine the voice
of the nodding dog in the Churchill Insurance advert on T.V and
you will hopefully visualise first team player Andy Bomber Riley
when reading the next complaint.
"F*****g hell Bob I thought you would have mentioned the
six I hit against Lowerhouse"
"Sorry mate but I can't remember everything"
"What do you mean every f*****g thing it was my first ball
and the biggest hit of the day"
"Well I'm very sorry"
"All these sorrys are ok Holmsey but how do I get up the
batting order ,I'm sick of being called best number nine in the
league"
"Well Bomber why don't you try going to Florida and batting
fifty odd balls for thirteen"
Another great win against Church saw the winning run continue
the top for batters once again contributing to take us past the
two hundred mark again, I heard a few complaints about the slow
scoring of Vinny at number five ,but my personal opinion of the
situation was that the skipper got it spot on by choosing him
to go in at five, he batted against his instincts and played a
good anchor role that helped the team to once again take the score
away from the opposition, he also got some valuable time at the
crease .The skipper also got it right with the bowling and the
fielding was testament to the hard work being put in by Nathan
and the lads at training. Once again though I must mention Vinny
who after battling with bat gave another fine exhibition of up
to the wicket keeping well done big man..
The two elderly gents Fred and Jack were moaning again, but I'm
sure they do it when I'm nearby to get their opinions on the board
"Wurst ti bin Jack?"
"Thall not believe it av only bin fur hayfer bitter, un it
tuk that long to geet served even yon Hanson ran a two"
Sunday saw the end of the winning run but we went down fighting
,hopefully showing the kind of spirit that will see the start
of another run of wins. The seconds lost again but they showed
a bit more fire in this performance., but amidst the gloom on
Sunday was the great news that PRINCE PETER returns this weekend.
Finally for this week over the last few years its been muted that
Haslingden give the odd brown envelope to certain players .I don't
know if its true , but whoevers giving our lads travel vouchers
can they please wait until the season finishes .
One more final note must be to Carol Cook Martin ,just to say
hope you are feeling much better and hope to see you soon.
Until Next Time - Bob
