Couldn't
believe what happened last Sunday ,it was my last game before
Paddy and the wife returned from their North American adventure,
I'd watched the game Saturday and saw Kes pick up another six
wicket haul and the awesome Chris Cook Kiwi score a rapid sixty
two that saw us get another twelve points ,obviously it was celebration
time for me. But when I woke Sunday morning and the cupboard was
bare and I'd developed another thirst ,there was no other answer
on a glorious sunny afternoon than to go down to the club watch
the two's then imbibe in the amber nectar and get stuck into the
now World famous cheese and Onion pie, just imagine my shock,
horror and surprise when I was met by a padlocked gate and a deserted
car park. I was faced with a terrible dilemma should I go to Asda
and stock up or go to the Shepherds, with dilemma averted I was
making my way to the "Sheps"when I noticed a group of
people and a camera crew outside Fitzpatrick's Temperance Bar
they all had a look of disappointment on their faces and looked
slightly agitated, so i asked them .
"Can I help you?"
"Well we've travelled all the way from our Alesbury film
studio to come and see the last bar in Britain that doesn't serve
alcohol"
"The last one ,you must be joking there's another one just
round the corner"
"Now you're joking ,what's it called ?"
"Rawtenstall Cricket Club"
"What a coincidence we were going there next to continue
our filming"
"Oh are you the Grand Designs programme?"
"No we were filming the secret millionaire and were told
that they were a worthy cause ,,but I guess they must be OK"
There's a moral in that tale somewhere, unfortunately I didn't
go the Grammar schoool..
We
won over at Rishton the feedback that I got was that in the field
we were superb and restricted them to 150, then Payney scored
a good fifty , but the real hero was Andy Bomber Baldwin who produced
the goods when the team needed him.
This weekend its our first game without Nathan but he's replaced
by Jarrard van Englefield a Dutch Kiwi he comes with a glowing
reference from Nathan ,otherwise it's the same team ,but with
Will Cook Wiggins returning for the seconds at least we have strength
in depth.
Apparently I need to apologise to a few members, I'd said in a
earlier blog that there was a poor attendance at the fancy dress
event ,but I've been told that there was another thirty people
there ,but they'd gone as the Rossendale hide and seek team. They
should have gone to the Olympics they were that good(having said
that they might have done).
Oh I nearly forgot Payney carried Kes down to the Car park and
poured him into a Taxi on Sunday night ,I bet he's glad it wasn't
me.
Got to go now I'm trying to find that name in the Yellow pages
were they get rid of moustaches on paintings ,there back in the
morning.
