Didn't have time last Friday night to gather any snippets from the Shepherds or the Red Lion , it was the opticians after work then a rush, before dinner at the Dining Room. and believe it or not all that was diagnosed is that my eyes aren't greedier than my belly.
I'm only joking ,apparently I have dry eyes syndrome and would require artificial tear drops but after the weekend I haven't needed them it's a blindfold that would help me better.
I knew on Saturday when I arrived at the ground that it was going pear shaped when Kingy was being taken to hospital to have his crown repaired ,worse still he was being taken by his girlfriend Kirsty , I suppose my first reaction should have been I hope the lads all right but I have to admit my concern was would we now be short staffed behind the bar now the clubs new Bet Lynch was missing.
The East Lancs sub pro only arrived the night before and all I can say is that I hope his jet lag kicks in this weekend ,he smashed a brilliant 140 out of a total of 269 all out on a wicket hurriedly prepared that morning by tenacious grounds man BOLTS. Our reply was woeful only Andy Riley with 27 looked confident and he along with Kes came away once again has the big two.
I hadn't watched the seconds for a while so Sunday I decided to have a chill and watch the younger lads .,we batted first and young Carter and Glover got us of to a solid start,
then a mixture of poor shot selection and excuses saw us stutter to 180 all out .I thought it strange that old Sid bowled fourteen overs but I was reminded of the stupid rules that only allow under sixteens to ball limited spells !. It must be said that Haslingden's young openers looked very good and they were soon sixty odd without loss in no time, with the fall of the first wicket in walked Manweb but alas there was no power cut and he smashed us to all parts to win the game with twenty overs to spare. In amongst the onslaught we did get the other wicket of the other opener Coleman, now this lad looks absolute quality but he would be better advised not to walk around the ground telling everyone of the umpires inadequacies
Up at Bentgate the weekend got worse despite our opening pair once again giving us a great platform, we were hammered.
I spoke to Deano on his thoughts about deputising in the field on Saturday for our injured pro
"What's it like sub proing ?"
"Well Bob don't tell my dad but I got my first brown envelope"
"Did it have your name on?"
"Don't be stupid Bob what about the tax man"
The only other news I have from the weekend is that the pro's girlfriend arrived late Saturday night, and on Sunday Nathan and Kes were violently ill and vomiting .
,I just hope it wasn't a dodgy Kiwi fruit.
