Called down the club last Thursday I'd heard a whisper that the new clubhouse drawings had been unveiled at a packed committee meeting (I found myself saying happy new year to quite a few)Vinny told me they were on a table down near the kitchen and he thought anyone could go and have a look ,so being inquisitive I set of down towards them but I soon took the hint when the lights went out and I was blinded by pepper spray. .Apparently the pepper spray was a mistake, Andy Nuttall had forgot it was in his pocket he'd intended to use it at the meeting if things weren't going to plan. .Anyway they had a emergency sub committee meeting and they decided which wall to display them on and they were there for all to see on Sunday.
I got a early call from Paddy on Sunday he sounded in distress ,
"What's up pal?"
"The sightscreen as blown over and there struggling to fix it"
"What do you want me to do, my tools are at work"
"Have you got a long white coat you could be a replacement, but will you fetch a skateboard also so they can push you."
I knew I'd give him his Spence to early
I arrived after twelve overs and the two's had made a steady start and things were looking good we were forty odd for one with the inform batsman Hanson striding to the crease, this is what I'd come to see a MATTure classy left hander(in fact Rawtenstalls answer to David Lloyd), unfortunately he was causing such a stir that fans were invading the pitch and I had to quell the invasion and missed most of our innings, but I did see the last few overs when youngsters Wylie and Brown plundered the Bacup attack and took us well past two hundred. It looked like we were in with a chance for our first win of the season but Terry Lord played a match winning innings for the visitors.
The firsts once again showed great fighting spirit to record another win with another batsman outside the top five ,WWW.C.M/TOPSCORE@BACUP. Being the batting hero,
Payney then showed his great all round ability to skittle the Lanehead lads. We were kept in touch by the goings on at Bacup by club chef Karen who Was Multi tasking ,it was amazing all at the same time she was cooking, serving ,brewing-up, washing-up and giving a running commentary with stats, it just shows how much time she has when she doesn't have to make committee teas.
Other tales to come out from Sunday are big Kev laughing at Deano and brother in law Barney when doing groundsmans duties,
"What you laughing at Kev?"
"I remember him telling me that in his job you can't afford a slip of the pen"
"What do you mean?"
""What do I mean, look at them lines I think him and Dean are playing noughts and crosses"
Heard another tale that Andy Riley is taking this Mike Baldwin impression to far ,he's been arguing with the Barlows
Vinny asked me not to mention him this week ,I promised not to but after I spoke to former pro Graham Ross,I think its only correct that he gets a mention ,he thought that Vinny played a big part in the victory at Bcup with a superb display behind the sticks especially when stood up to Payney.and finaly the drawings are now finished, but what I want to know is where is the dance floor and more important where is the freezer going to go on the dance floor!!!!!
See you soon, Bob
