"Wake
up Paddy your doing the scoreboard
is it raining"?
"No get up"
"They'll never play"
"I've spoken to Tony Bolton he says they will"
"I bet he hasn't cut a wicket"
"He did it Friday"
"I hope he rolled it we don't want the top going"
"Are you getting fed -up doing the scorebox"
"No its just when them two old teachers start shouting out
of the pavilion window that the scores are wrong"
"What's the problem?"
"Well its when both batsmen have same coloured helmets on
,its hard to know who's who"
"So when Matt Hanson and Matt Barnes bat together ,its difficult
is it?"
"Don't be silly dad Matt's left handed"
Yes it was the first day of the season but the season for me starts
when you meet the pro and it was in the Lion on Thursday when
I met Nathan, he appeared surprised when I told him I was the
opening bowler.
"Your f-----g joking"
"Don't worry pal I won't bowl I can't spin it"
When you listen to the lads introducing themselves it's really
funny ,I've saved a few for future reference but one classic was
"Well I'm an off spinning all rounder with a famous bother
who's a wicket keeper"
"Amazing, so am I " was Nathans reply.
After a long hard night shift I went to watch the seconds on a
bitterly cold Sunday afternoon, it didn't put the young Colne
team off though they amassed a very impressive 252 for 6,our reply
wasn't quite so impressive with Sam Excell top scoring with forty
five out of a total of 168.I only managed to watch four overs
from the wall before seeking the warmth of the clubhouse but unfortunately
it wasn't much warmer inside (the dead Polar bear in the toilet
being the proof ) the only person smiling was Steve Riley who
was in the corning playing with his little thing . Two hours later
we were all smiling when news of the firsts came through ,I looked
for Steves reaction and for some reason he was the only person
not smiling .
"What's the problem Steve?"
"I've lost the power in my little thing"
"Is it the cold weather"
"No my MP3 PLAYER "
See
you later - Bob
