Season update by Club Captain,
Vinny Hanson.
3rd Aug 2010
With 18
games gone we find ourself in sixth place after a topsy turvy
season, so far infact, the only thing that we have been consistent
about is being inconsistent. Are we delighted with being 6th at
this stage after finishing bottom last year - NO, are we relatively
happy - YES. This time last year we had resigned ourself to the
foot of the table and the atmosphere wasnt great but with 8 big
games to go (some bigger than others) we still have plenty to
play for as we aim to climb as high up the table as possible.
On the field, we potentially can get 4 batsmen over the 500 mark,
Payney and Nav have achieved this already and Sheepy and Josh
are closing in, this would be a great effort and exactly what
you want from your top order. Bowling wise, Kes continues to be
our main man with some outstanding figures (not including Burnley
at Home) and again as I have mentioned before seems to be enjoying
his cricket as much as I have ever seen him in previous years
I have played with him. Naveed started slowly and struggled with
the length to bowl but without wishing to jinx him seems to have
overcome these issues, especially if recent performances are anything
to go off. Payney and Riz both havn't really had the chance to
get going on the bowling front with niggle after niggle holding
them back, hopefully both can have a strong finish to the season.
Sheepy has done a great job for us this year and can count himself
unfortuanate that he hasnt bowled more, mainly down to just how
well Kes has bolwed. That leaves us with our new recruit Deano,
its fantastic to see a young fella come in and contribute to the
team just as Dean has done.
I would just like to mention my mate Nav, at times this season
he has found things tough going and at times has struggled, no
question about that. Recent weeks have seen a huge difference
both off and on the field, what a difference confidence makes
eh? Not now does he ask me "please move this man there",
you hear him "Rushy come there", "Cheepy come here".
In the dressing room he sits with players that maybe he wouldnt
have done earlier in the season when he kept himself to himself.
There is no question that this man can play and i just hope we
see this huge smile that has developed between now and the end
of the season. Is he just on a bit of run or has he worked out
how to play in the Lancs League? Time will tell.
Finally, not many people (especially some of my players) will
be expecting this but i would like to thank Paul Yates for his
time and effort writing the match reports for us this season.
Having tried to carry out these duties I know what a bind it can
be, yet on the evening of every match his reports are always on
line. I know Dave Dawson is very grateful for helping him improve
his site. Although some obvious tongue in cheek attempted wind-ups
for majority of the players, I am yet to read a report and think
"this is nonesense!" - cheers Paul.
Oh yeh and if anybody wants to come to my "Captain's Dinner"
give me a shout.
