Rawtenstall 146-9 (50 overs)
Todmorden 147-4
The 2nd XI continue to struggle and against an experienced
and lively Tod attack they were comfortably beaten at Centre Vale.
After being put in to bat Jamie Carter and Chris Thomas
weathered the early storm before both openers fell after reaching
double figures. Mark Roscoe hit a a brisk 10 before being caught
and Scott Wylie (7) nicked one to leave us in desperate trouble.
Matt Hanson was having a nightmare and was stuck on 2 not out
after a dozen overs at the crease but a straight six seemed to
wake him up before King was undone by a good piece of bowling.
Young Luke Wilcox nicked one behind to depart for 4 and then Hanson
drilled one to extra cover for a hard earned 35 but in reality
he should have gone on to register a bigger score and in turn
provide a better total to defend. Shafiq and Excell then departed
before a last wicket salvage operation by Saj Mohammed and Owain
Tracey took us to 146 at the end of our 50 overs. Special mention
to Owain who registered his 1st ever double figure score! He would
like to bring it to the attention of Brian Terry who he dedicated
the milestone to.
We bowled well in the main but with a low target to
chase Todmorden had the time and the ability to pick us off. Riz
Shafiq made an early breakthrough but Harrison and Clayton put
on a big partnership put pay to any lingering hopes of victory.
Their was a minor wobble when Clayton departed and then the key
wicket of Ted Whitehead seemed to raise spirits but we never posted
enough runs on the board and the home side breezed to victory.
